Hygiene Pantry

What is the Hygiene Pantry?

The St. John's Hygiene Pantry began about 10 years ago when we discovered that food stamps could not be used to purchase hygiene items.  At the time, we were writing food vouchers for folks to get assistance from the food bank and as we met with them we could see there was a need for hygiene products.

Our mission is to give the dignity of being clean to those in need of assistance with no questions asked.

How To Request Items

A bag from the Hygiene Pantry generally includes toothpaste and a toothbrush, dish soap, laundry soap, shampoo, a bar of soap or body wash, deodorant, and toilet tissue.  We can also help with feminine hygiene products, disposable diapers, wipes, and children's products upon request.

Due to COVID-19, we ask that you call the church office to request a bag of items when you come by the church.  We will assemble the items and set them outside the church entrance for contactless pickup.

Those on limited incomes many times have to choose between food or medication and have nothing left over for hygiene products.

After speaking to the Rector and the Vestry about  the need in our community the pantry was started. Donations of items were requested and soon it was up and running. A $500 grant was received from the Diocese to help out with expenses.

Soon items were donated by the Community Kitchen, community churches, and private citizens who heard about this ministry.  Monetary donations started coming in and shopping was done by members of St. John’s.
